“Holy Chariots of Hashem” is a body of work exploring the idea that the righteous are not merely remembered—they are carriers of presence.

Drawing from the ancient concept of the Merkavah—the chariot through which divine energy is revealed—this collection reimagines great men and women as living vessels of light, wisdom, and transmission.

Each portrait is constructed through Avraham Rafael’s signature tribalcosmic™ language, where:

Sacred Hebrew letters / Fragments of text / Explosive color fields / and gestural mark-making

intertwine to dissolve the boundary between form and essence.

These are not portraits in the traditional sense.

They are encounters.

The figures emerge and recede simultaneously—revealed through layers of Torah, blessing, memory, and energy—suggesting that what we see is only a surface expression of something far deeper and eternal.

Gold and light function not as decoration, but as signals of Kedusha (holiness)—timeless, radiant, and uncontainable.
