“Hear, O Israel: Hashem is our God, Hashem is One.”

This work emerges from my own spiritual journey — a life shaped by searching, wrestling, remembering, and returning. Over time, I have come to understand that the deepest calling of art is not simply to be seen, but to carry light. Not my light alone, but the spark of Divine light that Hashem places within each soul and asks us to reveal in this world.

There have been seasons in my life of brokenness and beauty, concealment and awakening, distance and closeness. Through it all, I have felt Hashem’s hand guiding me — sometimes quietly, sometimes unmistakably — drawing me back to what is eternal, holy, and true. My work is born from that relationship. It is my way of transforming struggle into devotion, form into prayer, and color into remembrance.

In this piece, the sacred words of the Shema are approached not merely as text, but as vessels — holy channels through which unity, protection, and presence flow into the home.

שמע — listen beyond sound.

ישראל — the soul that wrestles and returns.

ה׳ אחד — the revelation that all things are held within the One.

Before there was form, there was Light. Before there were worlds, there was the Infinite — Or Ein Sof — boundless, radiant, indivisible. The letters of the Shema hold that mystery. They gather what is fragmented and return it to Source. They remind the soul of its origin. They remind us that beneath all separation, Hashem is One.

As Avraham Rafael, I create from a place of reverence, gratitude, and responsibility. I do not see this work as decoration. I see it as an offering — something given through me, not only by me. If it carries any beauty, peace, or holiness, it is because Hashem has allowed me to share a small measure of the light I have received.
