There is a light that reveals…
And there is a light that holds.
Sameach (ס) is the letter of support, protection, and divine enclosure.
Its form is complete — a continuous circle, unbroken, unwavering. It represents the unseen force that sustains us. The quiet strength that surrounds us when we feel we may fall.
The word sameach itself means “to support” — to lift, to uphold, to carry.
The Light That Surrounds
In the language of Kabbalah, Sameach reflects the concept of:
Or Makif — the Surrounding Light
A light that does not enter directly, but instead encircles, protects, and prepares. It is the light we cannot yet contain —
but that already contains us.
Wholeness Without Break
Unlike other letters that open, stretch, or reach, Sameach is closed.
Nothing escapes. Nothing is missing.
It is a symbol of: protection / completion / inner stability / divine support. A reminder that even in uncertainty, we are never outside of the circle.
The Artwork
This piece expresses Sameach as a living field of contained energy:
A continuous, vessel-like form — holding light within / Raw, expressive brushwork — preserving the artist’s hand / Copper-gold tones — balancing warmth, strength, and grounding / Subtle internal movement — suggesting presence, not perfection / Atmospheric textures — hinting at something beyond the visible
It does not shout. It surrounds.
